The swampland of Louisiana is hit with the most massive oil spill in history. Barnacle, an old sea turtle, fights against man’s destruction, natures wrath, and her enemies of the wild to save her children trapped in spill.
Cast List: 5 women, 4 men
Gullet: (m) an enormous seagull, a calculated killer, any age
Barnacle: (w) a Deep Sea Turtle, a mother, 40s/50s
Weed: (m) Barnacle’s son, filled with anger, 17-22
Daedalus: (m) an excitable dolphin, he takes himself very seriously, any age
Foam: (w) 20s, a Deep Sea Turtle, hopeful yet sharp, early 20s
Track 1: (w) 20s, plays Pregnant Fish, and Tears
Track 2: (w) 60’s, plays Sheepshead and Clam
Track 3: (w) 50s, plays Elder Fish and Blue Heron
Track 4: (m) 20’s-30s, plays Rebellious Fish, Charmer, and Pad
Track 5: (w) 20’s-30’s, plays Blue, Sea Urchin, and LilyAuthor’s Note: Nothing is to be taken literally, but with simple theatricality and imagination. The animals should be played as people, never in animal costume or crawling on the floor.
· READ THE SCRIPT! Check out a copy from Karen Foster in the Arts Administration office in Noble Center.
· Sign up for an audition timeslot. The call board is outside of Gulick Theatre.
· Prepare a monologue or one of the attached readings. You may choose any reading that speaks to you, even if it is for a character of a different gender or age.
· Prepare one verse of a song. Any song will do. Please note that Dark Water is not a musical, but some of the characters do sing. Excellent singing or traditional musical theatre style of singing is not a requirement. You do not need to read music to audition or be in this show!
Arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete an audition form, check in with the stage manager, and get settled/comfortable
