Ready for the next step? “Gear Placement and Artificial Anchors” covers advanced topics including the proper usage and placement of artificial protection and advanced anchor building. This course provides you with the opportunity to learn the difference between active and passive protection, spend time placing gear and learning how to connect it to make anchors. Depending on student experience, lead theory will also be covered followed by an opportunity to practice mock leads with feedback on your placements. Self rescue clinics are also common during this course.

 

 

Introduction to Rock Climbing

Learn how to climb on some of the east's best rock! This course will introduce you to the world of rock climbing, including an introduction to equipment, knots, belaying, movement, and climbing techniques. Natural Anchors and Rappel Techniques

Looking for some skills to climb on your own? This course covers the basics of setting up top rope anchors using natural protection such as trees and boulders. Guides also provide instruction on rappelling techniques such as the ATC, Munter hitch, and friction hitches to better and more safely manage your rappel. Participants set up their own top ropes, practice rappelling and most of all, climb! Popular crags in the Adirondacks for this course include the Beer Walls, Jewels and Gem, and Pitchoff.
