Canadian Canoe Expedition

The Canadian Canoe Expedition is an intensive, multi-day canoe excursion with all the components of a full-on river expedition. The trip is run following the end of the spring semester, with exact dates varying from year to year in accordance with weather, river destination, and several other factors. Some familiarity with open canoe paddling is required, and participation in one of our instructional whitewater programs is encouraged. In recent years, we have explored the southern watershed of James Bay, running pristine rivers such as the Wekweyaukastic, the North French, and the Lawagamau. Pre-trip preparation includes route-planning, transportation logistics, gear and food selection, and boat outfitting. Map skills, backcountry "leave-no-trace" skills, team travel considerations, whitewater paddling instruction, and "river reading" technique are all part the course. Prepare yourself for a challenging and incredibly rewarding wilderness experience!

Dates: Following Spring Semester (see Master Calendar)
