 Teton Backcountry Ski Course
Deep powder turns… glades… bowls... Teton Mountains! Come explore the west side of the Teton range on the Wyoming-Idaho border for eight exciting days of backcountry skiing. This trip is for telemark or alpine skiers (alpine skiers will be using AT or Randonee equipment) looking for endless backcountry powder turns and an introduction to backcountry skiing. The course will focus on backcountry powder skiing instruction, winter travel and camping, and snow pack assessment (Level I avalanche course).
The first day will be at Jackson Hole ski area, known for it's endless backcountry terrain and abundant snowfall, and will involve advanced telemark and alpine instruction by professional instructors. The second day will be spent at Teton Pass learning about avalanche assessment and practicing with avalanche transceivers. The following six days will be spent backcountry skiing in the western range of the Tetons in the Targhee National Forest. The group will complete a nine-mile backcountry tour with full packs using two different backcountry yurts. Using the yurts as a base camp, we will take day tours focusing on instruction for backcountry travel, avalanche assessment, search and rescue techniques, and deep powder turns!
