CANTON - Two members of St. Lawrence University's Class of 2002 and a North Country businessman have been elected to the Board of Trustees. Terms for all three began June 1.

Tzveta G. Raynova '02 and Zhihong Huang '02 have been elected as McCurdy-Sprague Trustees. McCurdy-Sprague Trustees must have graduated from St. Lawrence between two and 10 years prior to their election, and serve four-year terms. The membership of the Board of Trustees includes four McCurdy-Sprague Trustees.

Raynova, a native of Bulgaria, is a director of mergers and acquisitions at Viacom, Inc. in New York. In addition, she serves on the advisory board of Grameen America, a microfinance organization that works to alleviate poverty in the United States. Raynova earned her St. Lawrence degree in economics, and was active in a wide variety of organizations as an undergraduate, receiving a number of awards for scholarship and leadership. She has also been active as an alumna, in fund-raising and in career advising.

Huang, originally from Beijing, China, earned his St. Lawrence degree in economics and mathematics/computer sciences. In May, he earned an MBA from the Columbia Business School, and has worked for Tykhe Capital in New York and Analysis Group, Inc. in Boston. Huang was also involved in a variety of extracurricular organizations as a student at St. Lawrence, and has been active in enhancing the University's international alumni network.

James M. Tyler, owner and president of Northland Associates, Inc. in Liverpool, has been elected to a six-year term as trustee. A native of Gouverneur, he began his career in construction with Rouse Construction in Syracuse, where he worked from 1968 to 1982, when he founded his company. Northland has been involved in a number of extensive construction projects throughout the region, including the University's LEED Gold-certified Johnson Hall of Science, the Sullivan Student Center, the Newell Center, the Robie Squash Courts, Creasy Way and, most recently, Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall. A gift to St. Lawrence from Tyler and his wife, Charlene, is designated for facilities enhancements in the arts and sciences; the Northland Associates Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial aid to qualified students.
