EXPERT ON VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS TO GIVE PRESENTATION AT SLU

CANTON -- Kelly A. Zinna, a native of Ogdensburg and 
graduate of St. Lawrence University who is a nationally 
recognized expert on preventing violence in schools, will 
give a public presentation called "Schoolplace Violence: 
New Perspectives for Prevention and Intervention" on 
Wednesday, November 10, at 4:30 p.m. in Bloomer Auditorium, 
Brown Hall, at St. Lawrence.
	Her presentation will include an overview of the 
history and dynamics of schoolplace violence, with special 
focus on the types of violence that have increased in recent 
years. Prevention and intervention techniques; training 
issues; policies; warning signs; and precipitants to violence 
will all be discussed.
	Zinna graduated with a degree in psychology from 
St. Lawrence in 1987 and earned her doctorate in clinical 
psychology from the University of Denver. She works as a 
police psychologist in the Denver, Colorado, area and recently 
founded Violence Prevention and Intervention, a firm specializing 
in the prevention of workplace and school violence.
	She is the author of the book After Columbine: A 
Schoolplace Violence Prevention Manual.
