Exhibition At St. Lawrence Focuses On Human Rights In Zimbabwe

CANTON - An exhibition of artwork at St. Lawrence University, proceeds from the sale of which will benefit an educational foundation, focuses attention on human rights violations in Zimbabwe.

The exhibition, titled "Hope for Torture Victims in Zimbabwe," will be in Gunnison Memorial Chapel on campus from Thursday, March 27, through Wednesday, April 23. The opening night reception, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. will feature poetry, a talk by Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Osaore Aideyan and performances by the Julia Marie Band. The reception and exhibition are open to the public, free of charge.

Art in the exhibition comes from students, community members and local children. Many items will be for sale, through the African Student Union, with proceeds benefiting the Just Children Foundation, which provides education to children in Zimbabwe.

The event is organized and hosted by the St. Lawrence chapter of Amnesty International.
