A List 11/13/00 SLU HOSTS ZEN MEDITATION WORKSHOPCANTON -- The Rev. Roko Sherry Chayat, abbott of The Zen Center of Syracuse, will present a Zen meditation workshop on Wednesday, November 15 at 7 p.m. in Herring-Cole Hall at St. Lawrence University. An informal tea will be served following the workshop, also in Herring-Cole. Both events are open to the public, free of charge. An adjunct professor at Syracuse University, Roko Ni-Osho travels widely to give Zen talks, workshops and retreats. With Eido Tai Shimano Roshi and Kazuaki Tanahashi, she compiled, translated and edited Endless Vow: The Zen Path of Soen Nakagawa, and she wrote the introduction to, compiled and edited Subtle Sound: The Zen Teachings of Maurine Stuart. The author of Life Lessons: The Art of Jerome Witkin, she has written many articles and reviews for such journals as Shambhala Sun, Tricycle, Sculpture Mazagine, ARTnews, American Ceramics, Present Tense and Lilith. She is a member of the Judicatory Council of the InterReligious Council of Central New York. There are a limited number of meditation cushions and benches available for participants in the workshop, but those who do not want to use chairs should bring a stiff cushion and/or a folded blanket to sit on.
