TREK THROUGH KASHMIR IS TOPIC FOR SLU PRESENTATION

CANTON – National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) representative Dave
Anderson will give a slide presentation on his recent journey to the
Zanskar Valley in the Kashmir region of India on Tuesday, March 2, at
7 p.m. in the Laurentian Room of the Student Center at St. Lawrence
University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Anderson spent a month trekking along the frozen Zanskar River,
ice climbing, exploring the natural history, cultural wonders and the
impact of tourism in the Zanskar Valley. The only winter access is a
60-mile trek up the semi-frozen Zanskar River.
A new road to be of strategic importance is now being built and funded
by the military and it is expected that within the next year the Zanskar
Valley will have year-round vehicle access, changing the way of life
of the Zanskar people forever.
