COMEDY 'YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU' TO BE PRESENTED AT SLU

CANTON -- One of America's best-loved comedies, You Can't
Take It With You, by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, will be
performed at St. Lawrence University on November 3, 4, 5 and 6
in Gulick Theatre.
Performances begin at 8 p.m. each evening, and are open
to the public, free of charge.
The play sets young love against the chaotic background
of families from different worlds. Taking place in New York City
in 1936, a riot ensues when Tony Kirby and Alice Sycamore bring
their families together in an uproarious encounter that includes
fireworks, snakes, ballet, jail time, socialism and Russian
royalty, among other things. In the middle of the commotion, the
families are forced to confront a more serious difference regarding
the place of money in their lives and what they are willing to
sacrifice for money.
You Can't Take It With You is directed at St. Lawrence by
Sara Chambers. Set design is by John Larrance; costume design is
by Hilary Oak. Andrea Nouryeh is dramaturg; Maureen Asher is
movement coach; Trevor Maynard '01 is stage manager. Sound design
is by Alice Hessert and students Yvonne Pelletier, Antje Baumann,
Beth Lacey Gill and Melissa Sinner.
