AUTHOR TOBIAS WOLFF TO SPEAK AT SLU

CANTON -- Writer Tobias Wolff will speak and read from his
work in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Wednesday,
March 1, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall.
Wolff's appearance is part of both the St. Lawrence Writers Series
and the St. Lawrence University Festival of the Arts, which has
the theme "Reconsidering Vietnam."
Wolff is well known for his two highly acclaimed memoirs,
This Boy's Life and In Pharaoh's Army, but he began his career as
a writer of short fiction and continues to achieve what Tim O'Brien
calls "the ancient art of a master storyteller." He has published
three collections of stories: In the Garden of the North American
Martyrs, Back in the World, and most recently, The Night in Question.
Wolff has also written a short novel, The Barracks Thief, and edited
several anthologies, such as Best American Short Stories 1994; A
Doctor's Visit: The Short Stories of Anton Chekhov and The Vintage
Book of Contemporary American Short Stories. He has received numerous
prizes, including the PEN/Faulkner Award. Wolff teaches at Stanford
University.
