RACISM IS TOPIC FOR SLU GUEST SPEAKER

CANTON -- Raymond A. Winbush, director of the Race Relations 
Institute and Benjamin Hooks Professor of Social Justice at Fisk 
University in Nashville, Tennessee, will give a talk called 
"Jerry Springer, Racism and the 21st Century" on Monday, October 
25, at 4:30 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall at 
St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free 
of charge.
	Winbush's research interests include infusing 
African-American studies into school curricula, African-American 
adolescent development, Black male and female relationships and 
the influence of hip-hop on contemporary American culture. He is 
the author of numerous articles on the politics of Afrocentricity 
and the forthcoming book Cinque Children: Raising Healthy Black 
Boys in America.
	The Race Relations Institute promotes and facilitates 
intraracial and interracial dialogue; scholarly research on the 
emergence and perpetuation of racism; training on issues of race 
and race relations; and the development of strategies to overcome 
racial injustice and enhance the development of societies that 
respect persons of all races and provide equal opportunities for 
persons of all races, religions, and ethnic origins.
