SLU LIBRARIAN AWARDED FELLOWSHIP FOR LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
CANTON - St. Lawrence University Launders Library Science Librarian Eric R.
Williams-Bergen has been selected to participate in the 2007 Frye Leadership Institute,
a leadership initiative focused on developing creative leaders to help guide information
services for higher education in the 21st century.
Williams-Bergen is a 1991 graduate of St. Lawrence, with a Master of Library
and Information Science degree from Simmons College. He has worked in the
University's libraries since 1998 and became science librarian in 2001.
Williams-Bergen is a member of Faculty Council, chair of the Conservation
Council and co-chair of the University's Digital Assets Management Initiative.
He also assisted students in the launch of the Green Bikes program, through
which bicycles are loaned out, much the same as books and other types of
equipment, from libraries. The program has received national attention as
a model for environmental awareness and promotion of healthy activity.
The Frye Institute is an intensive two-week residential program held at Emory
University in Atlanta each June, with a focus on the implications of the
growing power of information technology to transform the means of research,
teaching and scholarly communication. This year, just 26 percent of those
nominated were accepted into the program. It is partially supported by a
generous grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and sponsored by the
Council on Library and Information Resources, EDUCAUSE and Emory University.
