SLU Organizations Help Organize 'Shawna's Walk For Wishes' October 9
CANTON - The St. Lawrence University Center for Civic Engagement and Chi Omega sorority have helped organize a fund-raising event for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, called "Shawna's Walk For Wishes," to take place Saturday, October 9, at the University's outdoor track, or in Leithead Field House in case of rain. Registration begins at 9 a.m.; the walk begins at 10 a.m.
Shawna Cummings, a local seven-year-old, was diagnosed as an infant with a rare metabolic disorder called MCADD. She was granted a wish to visit Disney World with her family in 2008 and now wishes to "give back" through this event. All proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help grant wishes of local children who are diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. The fundraising goal is $6,000, the amount that would fund one wish.
There is no entry fee; those with pledges of at least $50 will receive a t-shirt. Prizes and raffles will also be held, as well as activities for children. For more information, contact Julie Johnson at 229-5095 or jjohnson@stlawu.edu; to register or pledge, visit the Shawna's Walk For Wishes Web site.
