'VAGINA MONOLOGUES' BENEFIT PERFORMANCES AT ST. LAWRENCE
CANTON - In celebration of "V-Day," a global movement to end violence against women and
girls, the Advocates Program at St. Lawrence University has organized performances of
Eve Ensler's award-winning play The Vagina Monologues, on Wednesday, February 14,
through Friday, February 16, at 8 p.m. each evening in Gulick Theatre on campus.
Tickets, at $5 per person, are available beginning February 1 at the Brewer
Bookstore. All proceeds from the student-directed production will benefit the
Akwesasne Family Violence Program and the international V-Day campaign to
eradicate violence against women.
The Vagina Monologues has been translated into over 35 languages and performed
all over the world. Ensler's experience performing the show inspired her to
create V-Day; in the "college campaign," of which St. Lawrence is a part,
performances of the show are held on campuses across the country in February and
March, benefiting local and global organizations. The Vagina Monologues is based
on Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace, the piece
celebrates women's sexuality and strength.
