University Chorus Seeks New Members
CANTON - The University Chorus of St. Lawrence, Canton's community chorus, is accepting new members for the Spring 2011 semester. University Chorus combines the vocal talents of students, faculty, staff and community members, performing a varied repertoire.
This semester's performances include a concert of Jewish music, especially relating to Passover, featuring an exciting setting of The Song of Moses for chorus, organ and brass quartet by American composer Brian Israel. The concert will be Saturday, April 16, at 8 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel.
University Chorus will also perform in the String Orchestra concert, singing in a new work by its director Christian Hosmer, entitled Celebration, to commemorate the new Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall. Also on the program will be the first movement of Vivaldi's Gloria. Performances will be Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m. in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall and Friday, May 6, at 7 p.m. at the Russell Opera House.
All singers, but especially tenors and basses, are invited to join. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Room 15 of Griffiths Arts Center. The first rehearsal is January 25; new members will be accepted through February 1.
