University Chorus Offers Concert Of Music For Veterans Day


CANTON - "Music for Veterans Day" is on the program for a concert by the University Chorus on Sunday, November 11, at 2 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

Included will be anthems such as "The Star-Spangled Banner," "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "My Country, 'Tis of Thee," "America the Beautiful" and "This is My Country," plus armed forces anthems "The Caisson Song" (Army), "The Marines' Hymn," "Anchors Away" (Navy), "Semper Paratus" (Coast Guard) and "The U.S. Air Force."

Also included are songs that address difficult issues of war and peace, including "They Are There (Fighting for the People's New Free World)," "When Lilacs Last in the Door Yard Bloomed," "Six Choral Songs to be Sung in Time of War," "The Souls of the Righteous," "For the Fallen," the Civil War song "Tenting Tonight" and "This Is My Song," among others.

The University Chorus is directed by Barry Torres, with Barbara Phillips-Farley as accompanist. Guest artists for this concert include Lonel Woods, tenor, and Paul Buell on trumpets and bugle.
