AVANT GARDE JAZZ GROUP TRIO X TO PERFORM AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON - The avant garde jazz group Trio X will perform at St. Lawrence University on Monday, October 2, at 8 p.m. in the Winston Room of the Student Center. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

Trio X is comprised of trumpeter/saxophonist Joe McPhee, bassist Dominic Duval and drummer Jay Rosen. The trio played at the 1997 Vision Festival in New York City. According to Duval, while everyone they talked to told them they were the best thing at the festival, they received absolutely no media attention. So, as a bit of a joke, they started calling themselves Trio X.

They have recorded several albums together, including a recent live recording on CIMP Records, an organization dedicated to creative improvised music.
