Student Group Plans 'Trash On The Lawn' Day To Raise Awareness At SLU

CANTON - St. Lawrence University's Environmental Action Organization (EAO) is talking some trash. The student group is planning an event called "Trash On the Lawn Day" for Tuesday, April 24, to raise awareness about the amount of trash generated in a typical day.

Members of the organization plan to collecting all of the previous day's trash from Sullivan Student Center and dump it in a nearby outdoor space. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 25, they will sort through what's collected, into categories such as compost, recycle, "plain old trash" and returnable. Everything will be weighed and documented so that the numbers can be compared each year. After 4 p.m., everything will be cleaned up and removed to the proper facilities.

Also planned are "tours" of the event, where students will explain the various categories and how data is collected.
