SLU PROF'S POETRY ON NEW CD

CANTON - A CD of original poetry and translations by 
St. Lawrence University Professor of Modern Languages and 
Literatures Steven White, set to music, will be premiered 
on Thursday, November 8, in the Java House on University 
Avenue at 8:30 p.m. The event is open to the public, free 
of charge.
	The CD is titled "Transversions," and contains a 
collection of White's original poetry and his translations 
of poetry from Latin America, from the last 20 years. The 
poems are set to pre-recorded pieces from many musical 
traditions and countries, including Spain, Portugal, Mexico, 
China, India, Brazil and Argentina. "Transversions" will 
be available exclusively at the St. Lawrence Bookstore.
	White, a graduate of Williams College with a master's 
degree and Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, joined the 
St. Lawrence faculty in 1987. A former Fulbright Fellow, 
he is the author of Modern Nicaraguan Poetry: Dialogues 
with France and the United States (1993). White's translations 
of poetry from Latin America have been widely published.
