TALK ON TIBETAN BUDDHISM SET AT SLU

CANTON -- A talk on Tibetan Buddhism will be given at St. Lawrence
University on Wednesday, April 12, at 6:45 p.m. in Herring-Cole Hall
by Venerable Tenzin Gephel, a monk from the Namgyal Monastery, and
Sidney Piburn, a founder of the Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist
Studies in Ithaca. The event is open to the public free of charge, and
will be followed by a meditation session.
The Namgyal Monastery is the personal monastery of the Dalai Lama
and is based in Dharamsala, India. Gephel came to the United States in
1997 to teach at the institute in Ithaca; his studies include Buddhist
sciences, sacred Tibetan arts, ritual music, sand mandala construction,
dance and butter sculptures. He created a sand mandala at St. Lawrence
in 1999.
Piburn is owner, managing editor and art director of Snow Lion
Publications, the largest publisher and distributor of books on Tibet and
Tibetan culture in the world. The author of The Dalai Lama: A Policy of
Kindness and The Nobel Peace Prize and the Dalai Lama, Piburn coordinated
the Dalai Lama's four-day visit to Cornell in 1991.
