St. Lawrence Hosts Tea Ceremony Demonstration
CANTON - A demonstration of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and exhibition of student-made Raku-ware tea bowls will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, in the North Country Garden in the interior courtyard of Sykes Residence Hall at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
A traditional Japanese tea ceremony demonstration will be led by a Japanese tea ceremony master. The Raku-ware tea bowls have been made by students in Professor of Religious Studies Mark MacWilliams' course The Religious Life of Japan and Professor of Philosophy Erin McCarthy's course Asian Philosophy. Guests will be asked to judge the bowls and vote for their favorite, as well as to sample a taste of traditional Japanes matcha, or green, tea.
