Molière's Comedy 'Tartuffe' To Be Presented At St. Lawrence
CANTON - Tartuffe, by Molière, will be performed at St. Lawrence University
Wednesday through Saturday, April 2 through 5, at 8 p.m. each evening in Gulick
Theatre. Admission is free, but tickets are required. They are available at the
Gulick Box Office, open March 31 and April 1 from 1 to 3 p.m.; 315-229-5748.
The production is directed by Visiting Assistant Professor of Performance and
Communication Arts Marna Lawrence.
The French comic masterpiece is about the wealthy Orgon, who takes Tartuffe
for a virtuous, religious man. But the truth is Tartuffe is a con man and
hypocrite who manages to worm his way into controlling Orgon's family, some
of whom devise a plan to trap Tartuffe into exposing his true self. The
work was first performed in 1664 at the palace of Versailles.
