SUNY PLATTSBURGH GOSPEL CHOIR PERFORMING AT SLU
CANTON - The SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir will perform in concert at St. Lawrence
University, on Saturday, November 10, at 7 p.m. in
Gunnison Memorial Chapel. The
event is open to the public, free of charge.
The choir was first organized in 1991 by students and has emphasized the breadth
and depth of gospel music in order to expose both the SUNY Plattsburgh community
and the North Country to this genre of music. It provides opportunities for
students, alumni, faculty, staff and persons from the local area to sing music
from the gospel traditions. Over 80 percent of the 60 to 70 members are current
SUNY Plattsburgh students.
The choir, directed by Dexter Criss, actively performs on campus, in the community
and throughout the region, averaging 20 appearances each year. Within the past
three years, the choir has performed in Albany, Arkansas, Boston, Chicago,
Montreal, New York City, Toronto and Tokyo. The repertoire ranges from
traditional spirituals sung a cappella to contemporary gospel selections.
