SLU String Orchestra Performing 'Best Of The Classics' In Spring Concert
CANTON - The St. Lawrence University String Orchestra, directed by Christian Hosmer, performs its spring concert, with the theme "Best of the Classics," on Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel on campus, and Friday, April 30, at 8 p.m. at the Russell Opera House. Both are open to the public, free of charge.
The program features well-known classic works such as "Les Toreadors" from the opera Carmen by Bizet and familiar selections from The Barber of Seville by Rossini. Other popular composers included on the program are Mozart, Brahms and Bach.
Ogdensburg Free Academy students Mithra Mohtasham and Zeb Fortune are featured soloists performing the Concerto for Two Violins in d minor by J.S. Bach. Other selections on the program include Internet sensation "Caramelldansen"; "Palladio" by Karl Jenkins (from the well-known diamond advertisements); and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." The orchestra's traditional finale will be the "Radetzky March," by Johann Strauss.
