CANTON - The St. Lawrence University String Orchestra, under the direction of Christian Hosmer, will perform in a concert entitled "Solo" on Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel on campus, and Friday, May 1, at 8 p.m. in the Opera House in Russell. Both are open to the public, free of charge.

The program features the orchestra accompanying several instrumental and vocal soloists from the region, including Jennifer Kessler, violin; Thomas Raggozino, trumpet; Barbara Phillips-Farley, piano; Sarah Shaver, oboe; and vocalists Jake Ryder and Jess Young, both members of the Class of 2009. The May 1 concert in Russell will feature Jim Madeja as trumpet soloist. Included are well-known works by Wagner, Vivaldi, Telemann, Haydn and Mozart, "Gabriel's Oboe" from the film The Mission, and the contemporary vocal hits "You Raise Me Up" (Josh Groban) and the popular "Con Te Partiro (Time To Say Goodbye)," made famous by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. The diverse and entertaining program will end with a performance of "The Best of ABBA," celebrating music from the musical and film Mama Mia!
