John Williams Works Focus Of St. Lawrence String Orchestra Concerts
CANTON - The St. Lawrence University String Orchestra, conducted by music
director Christian Hosmer, presents "A Tribute to John Williams," on Sunday,
April 27, at 2 p.m., in Gunnison Memorial Chapel, and Saturday, May 3, at
8 p.m. at the Russell Opera House in Russell. Both concerts are open to
the public, free of charge.
The program consists of well-known works by legendary film composer
John Williams, including selections from Star Wars, Jaws, Raiders of
The Lost Ark, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, the Harry Potter films and
many others. The orchestra will also perform selections from Schindler's
List, A.I. [Artificial Intelligence], and "A Prayer for Peace," from
Munich, featuring the orchestra's concertmaster, Jennifer Kessler, as
violin soloist. Pianist Barbara Phillips-Farley joins the orchestra on
keyboard, and the orchestra will also have a full percussion section
for the first time.
