Saint Michael's Warriors Dance Company In Residence At SLU

CANTON - Saint Michael's Warriors Dance Company will perform in concert on Saturday, January 31, at 8 p.m. in Gulick Theatre at St. Lawrence University, as part of a day-long residency. The event, which includes Christian rap artist Rabelz, is open to the public, free of charge.

The company will also offer a workshop in contemporary dance styles - hip-hop, modern and jazz - on Saturday, January 31, at 1 p.m. in Room 107 of the E.J. Noble University Center on campus; call 315-229-5184 for information on participating.

The concert, entitled Pick up Your Cross/Radical Joy, features contemporary dancing combining modern, rock, hip-hop, ballet and African styles.

Saint Michael's Warriors Dance Company has enjoyed international success since its founding in 2003. The company toured Australia last summer for World Youth Day 2008 and they were featured at Pope Benedict XVI's Youth Rally upon his visit to the U.S.

The company's stated mission is "to bring dignity and decency to the art of dance with the fire and intensity of Saint Michael the Archangel, himself." Inspired by the advocacy of the arts by the late Pope John Paul II, the company uses the diversity of dance, from hip-hop to ballet, to "leave even the skeptic with a little hint of eternal beauty."
