WICCAN AUTHOR STARHAWK TO SPEAK AT SLU

CANTON - The Wiccan activist and author Starhawk will speak
at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m.
in the Hepburn Auditorium. The event is open to the public,
free of charge.
The topic is "Only Poetry Can Address Grief," a
reflection on spiritually inspired anti-globalization activism
after September 11. Starhawk will lead a spiral dance in the
Quad following her talk, for all who wish to participate.
Starhawk is the author or coauthor of eight books,
including The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of The Ancient Religion
Of The Great Goddess (Harper & Row, 1979, 1989); Dreaming
The Dark: Magic, Sex, and Politics (Beacon, 1982); and Truth
or Dare: Encounters with Power, Authority and Mystery
(Harper & Row, 1987), which won the Media Alliance Meritorious
Achievement Award for nonfiction in 1988. A feminist and peace
activist, she is one of the foremost voices of ecofeminism,
and travels widely in North America and Europe giving lectures
and workshops, drawing on her 25 years of research and
experience in the Goddess movement. She holds a master's degree
in psychology from Antioch West University.
Wicca is a religion rooted in ancient beliefs.
