SLU'S SPECIAL PRODUCTIONS ENSEMBLE TO LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

CANTON – An evening of New Orleans-style rhythm-and-blues, swamp pop, brass band,
zydeco and hip-hop music, plus Louisiana-inspired food, will be offered by the
Special Productions Ensemble at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, November 20.
From 5 to 8 p.m., a meal of Crescent City favorites including shrimp
etouffée, chicken and andouille sausage, plus red beans and rice, will be
available in the Northstar Pub, E.J. Noble University Center. Price for a full
meal is $8 per person, with individual items priced separately. At 7:30 p.m.,
student musicians Elizabeth Teczar, Shameen Rucker and others will begin the
musical festivities with a set of New Orleans piano pieces. At 8 p.m., the LaSalle
Swamp Monsters, a student ensemble directed by music faculty members Michael
Farley and David Henderson, will lead the crowd from the Northstar Pub downstairs
to the Underground, where the rest of the show will take place. The musical
performance is free.
Conceived as a recreation of an evening at New Orleans' legendary Dew
Drop Inn ("the South's swankiest night spot"), the performance includes a variety
of music styles and genres. The 20-member LaSalle Swamp Monsters, this semester's
rendition of the Special Productions Ensemble, features singers Jen Crowell,
Mark McIntire, Audrey Merriam, Laura Ramsey and Ohene Cornelius.
