SLU's Sondra Smith Selected For Frye Leadership Institute
CANTON - St. Lawrence University Director of Educational Technologies Sondra R. Smith has been has been selected to participate in the 2009 Frye Leadership Institute, a leadership initiative focused on developing creative leaders to help guide information services for higher education in the 21st century. Smith, who was awarded a full scholarship from the Mellon Foundation to cover the costs of participation, is also the co-chief information officer at St. Lawrence.
The Frye Institute is an intensive two-week residential program held at Emory University in Atlanta each year, with a focus on the implications of the growing power of information technology to transform the means of research, teaching and scholarly communication. It is designed to develop the next generation of higher education leaders emerging from information-technology and library backgrounds.
Smith earned her bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education from SUNY Potsdam and joined the University's staff in 2000 as a New York State-certified educator. She is responsible for oversight of technology development programming in support of teaching and learning among faculty, staff and students, and represents St. Lawrence in a number of technology-related educational organizations.
