SOLSTICE CELEBRATION AT SLU POSTPONED

CANTON -- The Fourth Annual Solstice celebration at St. Lawrence University,
scheduled to take place on Friday, December 10, from 7 to 8 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial
Chapel, has been postponed to Sunday, December 12, at 7 p.m., due to the weather.
The event is open to everyone, and is an "all-ages" celebration, with small gifts
for the littlest ones and a reception to follow. Donations of canned goods for local
food banks are welcome.
Denice Szafran, the University chaplain's intern, is the worship leader for
the service. She plans a participatory celebration modeled on the
Unitarian Universalist Winter Solstice Singing Ritual.
The Solstice is celebrated by Earth-based traditions and marks the longest
night of the year and the return to longer days. Many traditions worldwide
celebrate festivals of light at this time of year, the most widely recognizable
of which are the old Yule traditions of Europe.
