CANTON – St. Lawrence University graduate David L. Wald, a seismologist
with the U.S. Geological Survey and a Seismological Society of America
Distinguished Lecturer, will give a talk on "Understanding the

A 1984 graduate of the University, Wald developed and managed both the
U.S. Geological Survey Advanced National Seismic System "ShakeMap" and the
Community Internet Intensity Maps (popularly called "Did You Feel It?")
systems for post-earthquake response and information. Wald is also involved

Information Center in Golden, Colorado, and the new Advanced National Seismic
System being built by the U.S. Geological Survey.
Participants in the conference will also view student presentations during
the annual Festival of Science on campus, give presentations and take tours
of St. Lawrence's Dolan Outdoor Geology Laboratory and Wachtmeister Field
Station, among other facilities.
