SLU Organist to Perform Second Associated Colleges Recital
The Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley presents the second of two organ recitals celebrating the grand masters of the organ. The performance will begin at 12:15 on Thursday, Oct. 2, at SUNY Potsdam’s Hosmer Hall.
St. Lawrence University’s organist and musician in residence Sondra Goldsmith Proctor will perform what she refers to as “explosive” music for the organ. The performance will include “The Burning Bush” by Herman Berlinski and “Symphony No. 2” by Charles-Marie Widor.
Berlinski was a renowned German-born, Jewish-American composer who immigrated to the United States in 1941 and went on to study and compose in New York City and Washington, D.C. Widor, meanwhile, was the provisional organist for the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris from 1870 to 1933.
