A List 2/14/05 ARTIST DISCUSSES 'HOME' THEME OF HER WORK IN TALK AT SLU CANTON – Artist Siona Benjamin will give a talk titled "Finding Home and the Dilemma of Belonging" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge. Benjamin, a visiting assistant professor of fine arts at Trinity College, will speak about her recent paintings, a series called Finding Home that "raise[s] questions about what and where is 'home,' while evoking issues such as identity, immigration, motherhood and the role of art in social change." Diverse influences from Tantric art, Indian miniature paintings, Byzantine icons and Jewish symbolism come together in Benjamin's work. Raised Jewish and educated in Catholic and Zoroastrian schools while growing up in India, Benjamin has exhibited her work throughout the United States, as well as in France, Canada, Australia and India.
