Musical Performances to Fill Springtime Air
By Maxime Bost-Brown ’17
St. Lawrence University's Department of Music will fill the spring season with familiar sounds from several music ensembles. All performances are free and open to the public.
The St. Lawrence University’s Wind Ensemble will showcase their Spring Concert at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, in the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall. Under the direction of Kyle Tupper, the Wind Ensemble will produce the earth-warming tones of the spring season.
The St. Lawrence University Chorus will twice present the songs of Simon & Garfunkel. Under the leadership of Barry Torres, the program will include songs from all five of the duo’s album releases from 1964-1970. The performance will include Barb Heller on guitars and vocals, Max Howard on keyboards, David Katz on bass, and Steve Manders on percussion. The first performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at Pickens Hall, located at 83 State Street in Heuvelton. The second will happen on the St. Lawrence campus at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, in the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall.
Finally, the St. Lawrence University String Orchestra will present a retrospect of 40 years of Star Wars with two performances, the first at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at George Hall Auditorium, 1100 State Street in Ogdensburg, and the second at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, at Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall at St. Lawrence University. Under the direction of Christian Hosmer, the orchestra’s performance will generate melodies unlike those heard on earth.
