TRAVELOGUE ON PERU PRESENTED AT ST. LAWRENCE
CANTON - St. Lawrence University Outdoor Program
Associate Director Sarah Councell will give a presentation called "Peru Wanderings:
A Journey into Modern and Pre-Columbian Peru" on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in
Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center on campus; it is open to the public, free of
charge.
In the spring of 2005, Councell spent two weeks traveling throughout southern Peru.
Highlights from this trip included natural and cultural wonders: Arequipa and
Canyon de Colca, the deepest canyon in the world; Lake Titicaca and its
islands, home to traditional folk customs and Peru's best weavers; historic
Cusco and Incan ruins in the Sacred Valley; and the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.
Councell's slide show combines beautiful imagery with an inquiry of cultural
preservation in light of modernity and tourism.>br?
