MOUNTAINEER'S BOLIVIAN JOURNEY PRESENTED IN SLU TALK
CANTON - St. Lawrence University Outdoor Program
Associate Director Sarah Councell will give a presentation called "Bolivia: A
Mountaineer's Journey" on Thursday, February 15, at 7 p.m. in Room 123 of the
Griffiths Arts Center on campus; it is open to the public, free of charge.
The presentation, which includes slides and music, recounts Councell's 18-day
expedition into Bolivia's northernmost mountain range, the Cordillera Real Norte.
Bolivia is renowned among mountaineers for its high altitude, aesthetic peaks,
sprawling glaciers, reliable weather and of course, its llamas.
Councell invites everyone to "transcend winter in New York and experience
springtime in Bolivia" through the presentation.
A graduate of Boston College, Councell taught in the city of Eugene, Oregon's
outdoor program and the National Outdoor Leadership School prior to joining
the staff at St. Lawrence. She has climbed in Mexico, Canada, Bolivia and Kenya,
and extensively in the U.S. Councell teaches outdoor leadership courses; outdoor
and indoor climbing; mountaineering and ice climbing; and manages the
Munro Family Climbing Wall in
Newell Field House.
