SLU Prof Awarded National Science Foundation Grant
CANTON - The National Science Foundation has awarded Michael Schuckers, associate professor of statistics and director of the Martha E. '62 and Gregg E. Peterson Quantitative Resource Center at St. Lawrence University, a grant of $49,652 to create and develop, with collaborators, a workshop and handbook for mathematics and science professionals at colleges.
The workshop, planned to bring together leaders of quantitative and math-support centers at a variety of higher education institutions, will begin the process of developing materials and infrastructure to outline best practices and procedures for the centers.
Schuckers will work with Grace Coulombe, director of the Mathematics and Statistics Workshop at Bates College, and Mary O'Neill, director of the Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning Center at Hamilton College, on the project. All have been directors of their respective institutions' quantitative and math-support centers for at least five years.
The workshop will take place in July of 2013, in conjunction with the Mathematical Association of America's MathFest in Hartford, Conn.
