Environmental Studies Prof At SLU Offers Talk On Climate Change
CANTON - Associate Professor of Environmental Studies Jon Rosales will give a talk titled "Can We Avoid Dangerous Climate Change?" on Thursday, January 27, at 7 p.m. in the Hannon Room of Sullivan Student Center at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Rosales will provide an update on the latest climate science and policy from the United Nations climate conference in Cancun, Mexico, including information on the risks of continued greenhouse gas emissions at their current rate; what can be considered "dangerous" climate change; what countries have pledged regarding reductions in emissions so far; and what reductions in emissions are needed to bring levels to an "acceptable" range.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Rosales holds a master's degree in economics from Mankato State University, a master's degree in public affairs from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in conservation biology from the University of Minnesota. He is the author of numerous journal articles related to environmental affairs, most with a focus on climate change. Rosales' current research focuses on the ethics of the United Nations' climate-change policy; the impact of climate change on traditional and subsistence foods in Alaska; and preservation of old-growth forests.
