Health-Care Costs Topic For Lecture At St. Lawrence Oct. 13

CANTON - Ron Bailey, the science editor of Reason magazine, will give a talk titled "Health Care Markets, Not Mandates: How to Increase Access, Improve Care and Lower Costs" on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall at St. Lawrence University. The event, part of both the Contemporary Issues Forum and the economics department Visiting Speaker Series in Political Economy, is open to the public, free of charge.

In the talk, Bailey will outline alternatives to both the existing system of health-care delivery and costs and to the current proposals under discussion in Washington.

The author of the book Liberation Biology: The Moral and Scientific Case for the Biotech Revolution (Prometheus, 2005), Bailey has been a staff writer for Forbes magazine and his work has appeared in many other publications, covering economic, scientific and business topics. Prior to joining Reason in 1997, Bailey produced several weekly national public television series including "Think Tank" and "TechnoPolitics," as well as several documentaries for PBS television and ABC News. In 1993, he was the Warren T. Brookes Fellow in Environmental Journalism at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

The Contemporary Issues Forum brings experts and participants in the making of news to campus throughout the academic year.
