SAME-GENDER RELATIONSHIPS EXPLORED IN SLU PRESENTATION

CANTON - "When The Gays Move Into Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" is the
title of a presentation by student affairs professionals Joe Bertolino
and Bil Leipold, to be held on Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the
Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall at St. Lawrence University. It is
open to the public, free of charge.
An interactive and informative program that explores the realities
of living in a same-gender partnership, Bertolino and Leipold discuss how
their relationship has been shaped by heterosexism and heterosexual
privilege. Drawing from their experiences as fraternity men and student
affairs professionals, as well as the personal reactions of their families
and friends, the two present a down-to-earth program that emphasizes the
humanity of being gay.
Bertolino is the director of college activities at Barnard College
of Columbia University in New York and is active in the American College
Personnel Association and the Association of Fraternity Advisors. Leipold
is assistant director of residence life at Rutgers University in Newark, New
Jersey, and received the Outstanding New Professional Award from the American
College Personnel Association's Standing Committee on Lesbian, Gay and
Bisexual Awareness. Both have presented at many conferences and institutions
around the country.
