St. Lawrence Professor To Give 'Craft Talk' On Writing

CANTON - St. Lawrence University Viebranz Professor of Creative Writing Richard Rubin will give a "craft talk" about writing on Thursday, November 6, at 7 p.m. in Herring-Cole. The event, which is open to the public free of charge, will be followed by a dessert reception.

Rubin will discuss his experiences as a young writer struggling to find his voice while navigating the confusing and intimidating world of publishing. Among Rubin's topics:

- How did I cope with endless rejection letters?
- What did I teach myself about how to write and publish before I got my first break, and after?
- What can aspiring writers learn from my experience?

The author of the memoir Confederacy of Silence: A True Tale of the New Old South, Rubin is a regular contributor to The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Smithsonian and The Atlantic. He will also speak and read from recent work as part of the St. Lawrence Writers Series, on Tuesday, December 2, in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall at 8 p.m.
