PULITZER WINNER RICHARD FORD TO SPEAK AT SLU

CANTON - Novelist and short-story author Richard Ford will speak 
at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, April 11, at 8 p.m. in 
the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall, as part of the University's 
Writers Series. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
	He is the author of five novels, the latest of which, 
Independence Day (1995), remains the only book to be awarded both 
the Pen/Faulkner Award and the Pulitzer Prize.  
	Ford is also the author of two collections of short fiction, Rock 
Springs and Women with Men: Three Stories, and in 1994 was given 
the Rea Award for his contributions to the short story as an art
form. He is the editor of The Granta Book of the Short Story and 
The Granta Book of the Long Story and of the two-volume complete 
works of fellow Jackson, Mississippi, native Eudora Welty. Ford's 
work appears regularly in Best American Short Stories and Pushcart 
Prize volumes.
	He has received awards from the National Endowment for the 
Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation and the American Academy of Arts and 
Letters.
