Country Music Offered In Rhythm & Roots Ensemble Performance At SLU

CANTON - The Rhythm & Roots ensemble at St. Lawrence University will perform a variety of country music and country/rock classics in a performance on Tuesday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in The Underground, Noble Center. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

The ensemble includes faculty, staff, students and community members and each year explores and performs a distinct type of roots music. For this performance, familiar tunes recorded and made famous by Merle Haggard, Dottie West, Little Feat, Hank Williams, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Neil Young, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, George Jones, Gram Parsons, Linda Ronstadt and the Band are included in the program.

In past years, the ensemble has plumbed jug band music, music of the Civil War era, Motown, "Bollywood," Hawaiian music and tango for inspiration.
