Alumni Reunion Weekend At St. Lawrence June 3-6
CANTON - St. Lawrence University will welcome graduates to campus for Alumni Reunion Weekend, June 3 through 6, with a schedule that includes variety of educational, recreational and social events, including seminars; tours of the campus and excursions to area attractions; a talk by President William L. Fox; and the traditional Parade of Classes.
Five graduates will receive Alumni Citations:
- Elisabeth Ehret Beebe '56 and David Beebe '56, of Camillus, leaders in the development of Camillus Erie Canal Park, part of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor of Upstate New York.
- Major General Russell Czerw '83, of San Antonio, Texas, a dentist and United States Army officer who has coached, taught and mentored officers and enlisted soldiers, including professional medical and dental providers, both in training and in the field.
- Judith Wakhungu '83, of Nairobi, Kenya, executive director of the African Centre for Technology Studies, the first African independent think-tank on the application of science and technology to development.
- Kevin Szott '86, of Milburn, New Jersey, winner of three Paralympic Gold Medals, more than 20 international and world medals in six different events and 36 national titles. He is only the second athlete to win medals in four different Paralympic sports (judo, wrestling, goalball, and track and field), earning medals in three Paralympic Games. He is a regional sales manager for The Hartford, the founding sponsor of U.S. Paralympics. Retired from competition, he continues to make national contributions as president of the United States Association of Blind Athletes.
Kathleen Perkins Colson '79, of Dorset, Vermont, will receive the Sol Feinstone Award for Humanitarian Service, presented to a graduate who, through devotion of his or her resources or personal effort, has demonstrated deep commitment to the advancement of the freedom of people to pursue and attain personal, professional and economic freedom. Executive director of the BOMA Fund, a U.S.-based non-profit organization that works to develop new opportunities for education, capacity-building and entrepreneurial innovation in northern Kenya, Colson is also the CEO of African Safari Planners; she has been organizing and leading safaris to Africa since 1986. She has also worked as refugee community coordinator for Refugee Services, a program funded by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in London, England.
