ALUMNI REUNION WEEKEND MAY 31-JUNE 3 AT ST. LAWRENCE
CANTON - The awarding of Alumni Citations to five outstanding graduates and the
Sol Feinstone Humanitarian Award to a sixth will highlight Alumni Reunion Weekend
at St. Lawrence University, May 31 through June 3.
Alumni Citations, awarded to graduates of the University for long-term and
exemplary service to the University or for exemplary professional accomplishment
or community volunteer activities, will be given to:
- Martha Root Peterson '62, a native of Colton and retired computer engineer
at NASA's Ames Research Center.
- Julie Hughes Rothstein '63, a retired partner in the Broadway and
television casting agency Hughes-Moss Casting.
- Edward "Ted" Higgins Jr. '71, a general and vascular surgeon in Kansas City,
Missouri, and medical volunteer in Kansas City and the Dominican Republic.
- John P. Loughlin '79, former University trustee and executive vice president
and general manager of Hearst Magazines.
- David J. Miller '81, former executive director of Audubon New York who
was recently named deputy commissioner for innovation and chief of staff of
the New York State Education Department.
The Sol Feinstone Humanitarian Award, presented to a graduate who, through
devotion of his or her resources or personal effort, has demonstrated deep commitment to
the advancement of the freedom of people to pursue and attain personal, professional
and economic freedom, will be presented to Lindsay Carroll Farrell '79. Since 1998,
Farrell has been president and chief executive officer of the Open Door Family Medical
Centers in Westchester County, New York. Founded in 1972, Open Door delivers
high-quality health care to some 2,500 low-income patients at four locations.
The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 2. A variety of educational,
recreational and social events are planned for the weekend, including seminars
with University faculty, staff and alumni; tours of the campus and excursions
to area attractions; a talk by President Daniel F. Sullivan; and the traditional
Parade of Classes.
