Greene, Daniels Appointed To Named Professorships At SLU

CANTON - St. Lawrence University Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs Valerie Lehr has announced the appointment of Professor of Psychology Thomas C. Greene as Sarah Johnson Redlich '82 Professor in the Sciences and Associate Professor of Performance and Communication Arts Rebecca Daniels as Birdsong Professor in the Arts.

The Sarah Johnson Redlich '82 Professorship in the Sciences was established in 2005 with a gift from Trustee Sarah Johnson Redlich '82. Greene is the first faculty member to be appointed to the position. A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Greene earned a master's degree and Ph.D. from Colorado State University. An expert in environmental psychology, Greene and several of his students were involved in the earliest stages of the planning process that resulted in the development and construction of the Johnson Hall of Science. He has given presentations on student participation in campus planning, particularly for science facilities, and has been active in Project Kaleidoscope, an organization that promotes science education within the liberal arts.

The Birdsong Professorship was established in 2001, with a gift from Lynn '68 and Terry '69 Birdsong, to honor and support an outstanding faculty member in the arts. Daniels earned her bachelor's degree at Stanford, her MFA at the University of Portland and the Ph.D. at the University of Oregon. She teaches courses in acting, directing, and playwriting, and has directed a number of productions on campus. Daniels also has been involved in the planning and execution of renovations and improvements to the arts facilities in the E.J. Noble University Center.
