SLU PROF WRITES BOOK ON COUPLES COUNSELING
CANTON - University Press of America has published a new book by St. Lawrence University
Assistant Professor of Education Peter D. Ladd, titled Relationships and Patterns of
Conflict Resolution: A Reference Book for Couples Counseling.
Ladd will speak about the book, as well as his 2005 University Press of
America book Mediation, Conciliation and Emotions: A Practitioner's Guide for
Understanding Emotions in Dispute Resolution, on Friday, May 11, at 4 p.m.
in the Josephine Young Room of Owen D. Young Library. The Friends of Owen D.
Young and Launders Libraries event is open to the public, free of charge.
Relationships and Patterns of Conflict explores six contemporary relationships and
discusses how couples may change from one to another according to their life
experiences. In addition, six common styles of conflict resolution are addressed
that may make relationship changes less painful and difficult are also addressed.
The publishers state, "When we realize that one of the most common methods for
transforming the union between two people is through divorce, then the possibility
of changing a relationship, instead of changing a partner, may become a more
attractive alternative."
Ladd coordinates the certificate of advanced studies program in counseling in the
graduate school of education. In addition, he acts as the clinical supervisor for
the Tekanikonrahwa:kon Holistic Health and Wellness Program on the Akwesasne Mohawk
Reservation. A graduate of Duquesne University with a master's degree and Ph.D.
from United States International University, he joined the St. Lawrence faculty in
1976 and has written numerous books and articles in the areas of counseling and
