FORMER TRUSTEE ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP HONORING PISKOR AT SLU
CANTON - A scholarship fund "to honor the mind and spirit" of St. Lawrence University
President Emeritus Frank P. Piskor (1916-2006) has been established by Class of 1943
graduate Walter A. Hahn, of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
Preference for the Frank P. Piskor Expendable Scholarship will be given to deserving
students who graduate from high schools on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Hahn states that he wanted to establish the scholarship at St. Lawrence "To honor
the mind and spirit of the late President Piskor, who was universally loved and
admired. This scholarship is established to attract and assist high school graduates
from the Cape Cod area, an area of immensely resourceful people, who are perhaps
generally under-represented at St. Lawrence University."
It is expected that students awarded the scholarship will receive a minimum of
$5,000 per year for four years to assist with the costs of attending the University.
If a student has additional financial need, the University will supplement the award
package with a combination of resources. In the future, the scholarship will continue
through a bequest from Hahn's estate.
Piskor, who died in March of 2006, served as the 14th president of St. Lawrence from
1969 to 1981. Following his retirement, he and his late wife, Anne, remained in
Canton and became very active in a number of civic organizations.
This new scholarship is in addition to the Anne C. and Frank P. Piskor Scholarship,
established by the Piskors and supported by many Laurentians, which focuses on
supporting women from the northern New York area.
